Day 300: Shifting the Clutter and Creating Space… 66 Days to Go

I feel that we’ve turned a corner today – clutter is still lurking around in the wrong rooms but I feel that things are slowly shifting into place. I’ve never seen my daughter so happy since she’s been in her new room. It’s like the space around her has given her some breathing space… time to think and time to be herself (although she did have to get up early and vacate it before the builders got here this morning 😀).

The shower tray and toilet cistern were put into place in the en-suite today, and the carpenter came round to make the cubby holes ready for tiling.

The en-suite

He also started work on the cupboard in the main part of room. It’s starting to take shape, and now that the final right hand part of the wall has been removed, the cupboard space looks bigger than I thought.

Even though I won’t get to use the cupboard myself, it’s not stopped me getting really excited about it… it’s storage after all… who doesn’t love storage?

I now need to divert my attention to the layout of the spare room (my daughters old room). It needs to function as a spare room, study, and TV room. I don’t really want to have to think about it right now but my husband has asked the plumber to move the radiator as part of the work he’s doing in the en-suite and also the loft (to move the tank). This way, he only has to drain the system once.

I have absolutely no energy to think about planning the room as I have so much else going on. I don’t want to make a mistake. In a way, I’d rather leave the radiator where it is, but it’s under the built in desk and not the best place. It’s also crooked on the wall for some reason. I spoke to the plumber today and he said that he’d help me tomorrow to think about the most logical place for the radiator.

Recycling all the packaging

Luckily it’s recycling week and so I was able to put out all of the cardboard (from the Ikea furniture) that’s been taking up residence in our hallway.

It felt good taking it all outside for collection in the morning.

I’ve had a good day although a bit busy at work, and we’ve had various builders coming in and out. This evening I made sure that my daughter’s room was dust free for her to sleep in tonight and then we watched a film together.

As usual the mess is piling up around me in the kitchen and dining room, but I might give myself a break and leave all of that until tomorrow as I have the morning off.

Hope you’ve all had a good Monday.

Until tomorrow…

I am a working mum and entrepreneur with a passion for writing, coaching, mentoring and inspiring others. Subjects I tend to blog about are life skills, parenting, decluttering, worklife balance, career etc. I’ve been on a decluttering mission for years creating space in my house, garden and mind. In 2020 I challenged myself to declutter every day for a whole year and write about it daily. After that success I took on a challenge to change my career from accountant to life coach, and in early 2024 set up my own company. I continue to keep up with the decluttering, and now write daily about my home life and coaching business. Have a good day! 1. You can only control just so much at one time, don’t worry about decluttering other spots now, just do the basics. You have way too much going on. So your husband wanted the radiator moved but did not have a place he wanted it moved to? Maybe he can help decide.
