Help decluttering your handbag

Why does the handbag remain cluttered? If yours is anything like mine, it’s a black hole containing many old tissues; receipts; loose change; crumbs (why is that?); make up; sweets without their wrappers; scraps of paper with half written lists, etc. It annoys me that I never seem to have the time to tip out the contents and sort everything out – it always feels like a big job.

The other day, my 6 (almost 7) year old daughter (who must have seen my bag as a fun challenge) asked if she could sort it out. I hesitated for a moment feeling protective about my ‘bits and bobs’, but then thought – why not.

The result was, a tidy and organised bag with everything put back in its place – less the clutter. I was happy, she was happy and I’m now wondering what else I can delegate…..

Is your handbag (or something similar) in need of a good clear out?

Until next time…

About Sandra Madeira

I am a working mum and entrepreneur with a passion for writing, coaching, mentoring and inspiring others. Subjects I tend to blog about are life skills, parenting, decluttering, worklife balance, career etc. I’ve been on a decluttering mission for years creating space in my house, garden and mind. In 2020 I challenged myself to declutter every day for a whole year and write about it daily. After that success I took on a challenge to change my career from accountant to life coach, and in early 2024 set up my own company. I continue to keep up with the decluttering, and now write daily about my home life and coaching business. Have a good day! 1. Sandra, how funny! Your daughter had helped you organize your hand bag. I am 44 and my purses got bigger now with age. Why is it I feel I need to have “everything, and the kitchen sink” in my purse. It’s kinda crazy because I don’t need half the stuff in it…but on the other hand I am the type of person that wants to be able to have that “item” or thing for someone else. I have often said to someone, “i have a headache” do you have an Advil, and walaaa they go dig in their purse and get me one. So I call my purse the adventure of hand it to others bag…lol Great post!!

    • How funny! Bags are just a black hole aren’t they – you never know what you are going to pull out. The other funny thing was that when I asked my daughter to sort it out again she said “I only do it every two weeks”. Oh well, that’s better than nothing.
      Thanks for the comment

  2. I can totally relate to this post I can never find anything in my bag! Instead of reorganizing my bag though I just bought a smaller one and that one is even a black hole. I should try going through my stuff. Nice post.
