Tackling a Small Pile of Papers Before it Gets Out of Control

Tackling a small pile of papers and stuff

I quickly dealt with this small pile of papers and stuff today and felt proud of myself. It might not appear to be anything big, but this is one of my interim solutions that really has worked for me over the last few months, so it’s worth posting an update.

All I do is keep a lever-arch file, a hole -punch, shredding scissors, a concertina receipts file, a pending box and a few other obvious bits in a cupboard under the kitchen counter.

I then deal with each item quickly by filing, shredding, recycling, adding items to pending box and so on. Things are easier to find, and they are not even filed away in a detailed filing system, they are just hole-punched as they come in.

What about historial paperwork?

This doesn’t mean that I’ve done much with the historical piles of paperwork in the spare room (that’s an ongoing project that I’ll blog about as and when I make progress) but at least I know where any recent paperwork is.

There will eventually be a more detailed filing system in the spare room (or somewhere else) but until then I’ll carry on this way. So, yes… one day I’ll be a bit more organised, but at the moment this suits my busy lifestyle and it keeps the kitchen counter and dining room table clear.

This solution is only interim and possibly wouldn’t suit everyone, but it works for me for now. It certainly stops me adding piles of paper to the spare room which would just make the whole decluttering project harder.

  1. You are so right! If you take on these little daily tasks it stops them from becoming a mountain that needs to be climbed. Keep on going you got this.
