Day 95: Pigeon Droppings on The Swing Seat

Swing seat

I spent hours in the garden today. Mostly lying on the sun lounger listening to audio books, meditation tracks and music. I even caught up on some reading. The warmth of the sun on my skin was so wonderful and I felt relaxed and happy.

This afternoon I got up and did a bit of gardening and spotted a job that I’ve been putting off; cleaning the bird droppings’ off my wooden swing seat. Not a nice job and this is probably one of the culprits…

A pigeon

How do I stop these pigeons resting on top of the swing seat? I have nothing against them. After all, I got this close to take a photo, plus I used to feed them seeds at London’s Trafalgar Square when I was a small child. What I’m trying to avoid is them perching on top of the swing and aiming their droppings onto the seat.

A few years ago I bought some special holographic tape and wrapped it diagonally around the perch. The reflection of the tape was supposed to stop them landing on or near it. Either the tape has lost its shine or they’ve got used to it, because it doesn’t seem to work anymore.

Cleaning the seat

I put some rubber gloves on and scrubbed the swing seat with a soap solution and hosed it down (twice). It was stuck hard. There are still a few marks but I think I did a good enough job for today. I might have another go tomorrow. Here are the before and after photos.

The weather is going to be even better tomorrow so I’m looking forward to spending a bit more time in the garden.

I had to pop out to get some food shopping today as we were out of most things. There were no eggs in the supermarket, but at least this time I was able to get rice and dishwasher salt. It’s usually a bit hit and miss what you can get, particularly if you go late in the day like me, but the store workers are doing such a great job and the shelves were pretty well stacked today. I was given instructions when I entered and I followed the black arrows keeping at least a two meter distance from others.

I hope you are all having a lovely weekend wherever you are.

Until tomorrow…

You’ve made a great job of getting that bench clean! I’m not sure how you’ll get rid of the issue with those pesky pigeons though bar shooting them! Eek, I’m only joking.
As for my weekend, it was quite productive, I managed to clear some more of the spare room to write. Cleared my desk, and double stacked the book shelves. I know I have to get rid of some but I will do it when the UK is open for business again. I did throw a huge stack of old writing magazines away though…
I’ve done some weeding, and tidied the back garden. Been for a couple of short walks around the block and had a nice relaxing bath this evening.
I’ve also signed up to learn Spanish via an app called Duolingo, it’s 15 minutes a day and I am on day three. It will be a miracle if it sticks in my head.
Oh and I am just about to tackle the ‘To Do’ list for the week ahead.
Happy Sunday, have a great week

    • Thanks for commenting. It’s been such a beautiful day today and we actually threw a blanket on the swing seat and sat on it which is better than just looking at it and saying yuk! Well done for all that you’ve achieved today, particularly clearing the desk to write – that’s a good step forward. I use that Spanish app too – my girls are studying spanish at school and so I decided to learn a few words too. I think it’s really good, but unfortunately I haven’t logged into it for a couple of weeks. Happy Sunday to you too, although I think it’s Monday now. I should get some sleep 🙂
