The Power of the Right Words at the Right Time

I was chatting to my daughter in the car this morning about how she was feeling about going back to school after almost three months of home schooling and not even leaving the house.

She said that she wasn’t worried as such, she just didn’t know how the day was going to go. She couldn’t see past the point of walking in through the school gates. She’s done this hundreds of times before, but today was going to be very different due to having to go through the process of the Covid-19 test.

Sometimes when we have no experience ourselves it’s difficult to come up with the right words. We had talked it through last night and as usual I encouraged her to think positively and imagine it all going well.

How Social media can sometimes have a positive effect

This morning in the car she said that she was feeling better, not because of anything we’d said, but because of a random message that had popped up on her Instagram stories. I can’t remember the exact words that she said and nor can she now as it has disappeared, but it was simply along the lines of the following:

“It’s ok to feel worried or anxious today. Just remember that everyone is feeling the same as you”

I’ll never know who to thank for putting a message like that on Instagram stories. It made my daughter realise that she wasn’t alone in how she was feeling.

Her COVID test was negative and she had a good first day back. The power of words is incredible, you just have to absorb the right ones.

I’ve had a good day; very productive in fact. I’m not one for getting up early when I don’t need to, but I got a head start by having to do the early school run. Before starting work at 9am I’d taken my daughter to school, had breakfast, wiped round the bathrooms and cleaned half of the lounge.

I’ve also read a number of positive and inspirational messages today. Remember that you don’t have to read everything that comes through. Just be selective in who you follow and delete the accounts or pop up messages that do not lift you.

Hope you’ve all had a good Monday!

Until next time…
