Stressful Day? Dance Your Way Into the Evening

Even though I’d had a long working day today, I managed to fit in a few short breaks which I believe are very important. It wasn’t enough though and I got to the point of the day where I just couldn’t concentrate anymore so I logged off and went to the kitchen to cook dinner.

I was faced with the usual dishwasher duties and an evening of more chores. I knew I’d be thinking about work as well and possibly log back on. Why did it have to be that way? It was then that the idea came to me. If I stopped my train of thought and reframed the situation, surely I could turn things around?

I made a decision to be really happy. I went to call my mum for a chat but my phone had run out of battery, so I put it on the charger and said to Alexa “Play something fun” and an upbeat song started playing. I started dancing around the kitchen emptying the dishwasher, preparing dinner, decluttering the worktop and singing at the top of my voice.

I basically danced my way into the evening to one great tune after the other (thank you Alexa). The rest of the family were oblivious to my antics. No one came into the kitchen until I called my daughter for dinner. No one else but her wanted leftover roast from yesterday. She just smiled at me when she walked in and asked me if I was having a party on my own.

It was like I’d done an aerobic workout when dinner was ready and I felt soooo much better and more energised! I poured myself a small glass of white wine, also leftover from yesterday’s dinner, and enjoyed the meal.

So, the moral of the story is… when you’ve had a stressful day, just pretend it wasn’t 😄.

Dance as if no one is watching.

Try it!

Until next time…

  1. Since only the cats are watching, I don’t have to worry about the “as if” part.

  2. There are times when you can just convince your mind to go somewhere happy, I have found that it depends on what is causing me stress though. Dancing and music usually brighten my day.
