You might wonder why I’m writing about Christmas decorations. Today I took some time off and focused on decluttering amongst other things. I walked around the house again to get a feel for where the energy wasn’t flowing.
I’m embarrassed to say that the area that I’ve been putting off is the conservatory as the Christmas decorations were dumped out there two months ago, and are still all over the place. The curtains usually hide this, but with the evenings starting to get lighter this time of year it was definitely time to box them up.
The last couple of months I’ve been considering buying some plastic boxes that are easily stackable in the loft, but decided against it as it would have been an unnecessary expense. So, instead I used the cardboard boxes that they came out of.
Motivating myself to make a start
I couldn’t even step into the conservatory as it was sooo packed and not just with Xmas decs either (yet another clutter habit area!) In the middle of the room was an exercise machine that we moved out there when we needed to put up the Christmas tree in December. So, I got on it and did a ten minute workout to motivate me to tackle the boxing up. It did the trick, as I don’t need much motivation when it comes to decluttering.

It took me a while to sort everything out, box it all up and tape the boxes shut. Then I left them on the upstairs landing until my daughter got home to help me. I was determined to get them up in the loft this evening so that I didn’t mess up yesterday’s success of keeping that area clear.

I opened the loft and my daughter passed them up to me.
All in all, a long-overdue job well done, although I still have to finish tidying the conservatory. That’s a blog for another day.
I didn’t stop there though. I started on one of the bedroom wardrobes too (more on that tomorrow, as the under-shelf baskets that I ordered from Amazon won’t be here until then).
Until tomorrow…
Sandra
What a beautiful room, I wish I had a conservatory! It is true you don’t need all those boxes, though I did give in a few years back and bought some as I was packing the decorations in a closet in and unused bedroom so I needed them to be more regular shapes and sizes. I decided that since I was the one taking them down and putting them away I was going to make it easier on myself and it has worked for me.
Thank you. True, and why does it always fall to us? Maybe it’s because we want to organise them so that we know where things are. I might treat myself to new storage boxes next year. I just need to do it in a timely manner so they don’t sit there for two months in the conservatory, ha ha
If you do, I found that it was easier if I could see through them instead of getting the solid colors.
Good idea
