This will be the last day that I’ll be calling it the spare room because tonight my eldest daughter will be sleeping in there. She gets an extra hour in bed because the clocks go back tonight and she’ll wake up on the morning of her 16th birthday in her new room.
Cleaning and clearing in the spare room
Today was all about getting most of the stuff out of spare room and finding somewhere to store it. I spent a bit of time in the garage in preparation for this and went through a few more boxes to make some room. Made a little bit of progress.
My youngest helped me move a lot of the painting stuff into the garage and the builder’s stuff into the en-suite, and this helped make half of the room clear. We pulled up the dust sheet and vacuumed the floor. There were bits of paint on the carpet, but it shouldn’t be long before we choose a new one. We need to find somewhere to put the sofa, the filing cabinet and the games, but for now they are staying in there over the other side.
This must be the first time I’ve seen the room this clear since we moved in 12 years ago.

It had slipped my mind that the girls used to share this room when they were toddlers. I recall their cute little beds with cuddly toys and matching duvets. It’ll be nice that it’s being used as a bedroom again as it’s such a lovely big area. I’m so looking forward to seeing it full of the stuff she’s chosen and to see how she accessorises it.
She’s only on an inflatable mattress tonight. She’ll be unwrapping the proper mattress tomorrow and the bed is turning up in a few days. The part of the room by the en-suite will still be a bit of a building site until next weekend but she can still use the room at night. She’s happy.
Putting the furniture together
This evening the girls put the Ikea furniture together in the room. It’s been taking up space in our hallway all week so it was good to get the boxes upstairs.

She has two bedside cabinets, one vanity unit with glass top and drawer, and a double chest of drawers. They will be putting together the drawers tomorrow as it got late.
I picked up a large ‘one’ and a ‘six’ balloon today and I’ve put that with her presents downstairs that my daughter and I have just wrapped.
I think I’ll have a bath now and get some rest. I’m looking forward to a lovely day tomorrow.
Until then…
Sandra

Thanks Alcina, I’m not sure where the strength comes from… I just keep going. I’m getting better at taking breaks though. Hope all is well with you xxx
Hope she has a wonderful birthday and you all should be happy with getting the room ready for her next step in life.
Thank you, yes we’re very happy
